Days Gone By

Days Gone By, Machine Quilting
Days Gone By White Ribbon - Adult
Several years ago Andover featured "The Little House on the Prairie" fabric at the Houston International Quilt Festival. Instantly I knew I would one day fashion a quilt for my niece, Makayla, who is an avid Laura Ingalls Wilder fan. Makayla (on the maternal side) is a 10th generation farm/ranch girl! Several of the blocks depict scenes from grandmother's farm house. The individual squares are quilted, with among other things, windmills, corn, cows, horses, Pony Express riders, bucking broncos and horse and rider, to reflect not only the foundation of farming and ranching life, but also Makayla's continued commitment to the country life - she is currently an FFA member and active in 4H. The rope and barbed wire borders indicate both the past and present tools of the trade in farming and ranching life and, of course, the State of Texas quilted over the fields of bluebonnets are a salute to Texas. Being a "waste not, want not lady," grandmother would appreciate the pieced backing which used all the remaining strips and fabrics used in piecing the front of the quit. This will be Makayla's high school graduation gift , which I know she will cherish for decades to come.
