My twin sister getting married pushed me into the design of Something Blue. I wanted to make a traditional Flowering Snowball block after seeing my good friend Tricia Young make several, but I wanted to put a modern spin on the color and design. The orange peel units have a uniform floating feel that contrasts the rest of the quilt with its low contrast pairings and colors transitioning unexpectedly across blocks. I accentuated these choices by using coordinating thread that added to the effect with matching colors and alternating between minimal and dense quilting. While it didn't make it to the wedding to serve as her something blue, it will be a beautiful piece in her home for years to come.
